Project 6 eval

Project 6 was a crazy one. I have mixed feeling about what I liked about it and what I dint like. I liked that it made me think about what I could use to make a film without a camera but I did want not want to use much of a still camera because I did enough of that in 201. I shot some pics on a still camera and went into the lab not really knowing what I was going to do then I started to look on the internet to try to find achival footage but could not figure out how to transfer it to my movie so I started to look at still pics and started to find some things that I liked. I ended up using a whole lot of pictures for the internet and few from the pictures that I shot. I feel that it tured out alright. sound was a little bit of a problem because I did not have that much time after doing all the pics I had to kind of wing it with the sound which I did not like doing. It seemed to work out alright but not as good as I would have liked. I guess that is the challenge of the project but I did not enjoy rushing anything that I had to turn in or put my name on. I had a hard tome turing that film in because it was not up to my standards but It was a 48 hour project so... For the most part this project made me think about what I wanted to do but made me ruch a little bit in the lab. I was mad that I could not make it to the party to view them but I did have class that I was running the camera in so there was no chance I could have made it. I hope to see what everyone else came up with.

Project 5

I was a little unhappy with what I did on this project. I was planning on getting some shots of landon driving downtown at night using the lights of downtown to halp with the rythmic editing but it did not work out like what. We had some trouble checking out a camera so we had to use a little sony thing which worked out because I was hanging out of a moving car window for some of my shots so it was a good thing that I could not get the xl2 or one of our other cameras. I was a little owrried about this project because I really did not understand when I got the project sheet how it was going to work but when I got to the editing lab It all started to make sense. It was a good project but I think I would have done mine in a different way If I had to do it again.

One Shot

Now project 4 was a fun one. I really liked working with the bolex. It was something that I had never done before and not may people in our class had. I brought anything I could find in my house that I thought would look good on film. It seemed to work out good with the costumes and insterments. everyone had imput in our group and that was nice. I was also fun because I think I was involed in every group but one and that made it that much more fun because you had a part in all of them and I know our film would not have been what it turned out to be without others helping and makeing and apperance. So that aspect made it more rich and fun and got everyone a chance to be a part of many projects that all had different looks and ideas. The editing went good me and colin just tried to make music that went with the project and look up some soulnd clips of flags and such. For the most part the final product turned out nice I think we could have stoped the music and done something unexpected with the sound maybe but for the most part I and happy with it.

Thread

I did want to blog about the first film that I saw at the film festival. The film was called Thread, It was a surfer film but what was interesting is that it was made by a filmmaker friom New York City so it was done by someone completly out of the surfing world which gave it a different feel then other surfing films. One of the best parts of the film was this story of this artist who would do these large patterns and pictures in the sand of the beach. The pictures looked like crop circles in the sand. Some he would start of by making circles about the size of pennies in the sand and move back and make the circles bigger and bigger until they were 15 feet wide. I;ll try to find a picture.

Sound

I have not put down a blog in awhile. It is prob because we did not have class last week so this week is going to be dou ble because we have class on sat. I am kind of looking forward to the shoot on sat. I dont really know what we are doing but it seems fun. I have to get in touch with some peo0ple to work on the soundtrack and things for my projects. I have not decided what we are going to do with the music. music in iflm is fun to do because it gives films such as these a whole new meaning and experience then when just watching them silient. we will see what we come up with.

Old Dino

The project like we did last Thursday reminded me of Dean Martin in som way. I guess it was the black and white film we were using. It looks kid of like x rays and the bright lights of Vegas if they where black and white. I am very excited to see how our animations cam out. I hope they will go like we think. I can see us sitting in class on thursday relizing that we did something completly wrong. I hope not.

I am finding it hard to find things for theis third assignment. The artifacts that we are looking for have to be very small and have some kind of outline and shape to them so that they will look intesting when we put it on the film that is going to be rolled out in the front of us. I relly thought the coffee to develope film was very interesting and thought about what else was possible for house hold items. I relly enjoys the groups films that went I though that was a very good project and thought the animation part came out much better then I thought it was going too. I am in a group that did not get to go last thursday so I am looking forward to it. I just worry about my animation as I think everyone was before they showed theirs. I also hope that the mag transfer stay on. we will just have to see

E W F & W

This photo reminded me of the projesct that we have been working on. It is something of the shape of part of my animation so I thought I would put it into my blog. The harted part is getting everything together and trying to figure out the order of my film. what ans where everything should go on the film. Everything else seems to be going good.

Project earth wind and fire

I have not started much on this project yet. I have done some bleach on the film and I think I like how it looks. I did have some trouble with the animation part. I had not idea that it would take so long if you want to do it right. I found that if you use a ruler and things to measure things out in a 24 or 25 frame area it works and keeps things even. I did pick up some paints and i am going to test them out soon. I think that I am going to have to lay out a whole role and do work on it in one 3 or 4 day chunk. we will see how that goes over.

The Real First

This class seems to be going alright in my mind. Interesting, thats for sure. I do enjoy the hands on part and putting my hands on film. I like the fact that it is not like any other film class. It is very experimental so far and that is an area of film that I have not been trained at as much as some other areas of film. That makes it much more interesting because 80% of the things that we learn and talk about are new to me. The most interesting thing so far was in the class in the film by Norman Mclaren. It was very interesting and the best experimental film that I think I have ever seen. To just think of the labor that went into the timing and music for those films is just amazing.
